The Importance of Notes

Well...that was quick. Now positive on the day over $40. The following hand is exemplary of why notes are so important. My notes on the villain from a previous confrontation:

Mankonspank:
25nl 6max:
-3bet in position with 7c8c, bet at 7xJ flop, check turn and river

*** FLOP *** [4h 5c Js]
DubsPoke: bets $8.25 <-----get away fish
mankonspank: calls $8.25 <------well, not exactly what I wanted, what is his range!?

*** TURN *** [4h 5c Js] [3d]
DubsPoke: bets $23 and is all-in <-----that's a safe card, I'm putting myself as a pretty good chance to be ahead, this guy would 4bet shove pre with big pairs, his in the range of hands, TT is a small possibility. Based on history, more likely he has some sort of connector with a pair or perhaps a draw. let's put him to the test for his $$.

EDIT: MAKE SURE TO READ WAFFLES NOTES. Excellent point.

midas281 joins the table at seat #9
mankonspank: calls $18.10 and is all-in <-----that probably isn't a good sign, set mined? tt? TJ?
Uncalled bet ($4.90) returned to DubsPoke

-----------------------

As I was putting that one together, here's another WTF:

WTF?!?

PokerStars Game #21831127294: Hold'em No Limit ($0.10/$0.25) - 2008/11/07 10:10:18 ET
Table 'Ohio' 9-max Seat #4 is the button
Seat 1: IReadUSoGood ($27.30 in chips)
Seat 2: Lovethesea ($4.35 in chips)
Seat 3: PokerZerg ($24.15 in chips)
Seat 4: virtua_fish ($39.95 in chips)
Seat 5: Jesus Lester ($25 in chips) <----over 122 hands, 9/8/13. However, SUPER aggressive when entering a hand
Seat 6: DubsPoke ($70.80 in chips)
Seat 7: mankonspank ($25 in chips)
Seat 8: Chris1804 ($36.05 in chips)
Seat 9: midas281 ($5 in chips)
Jesus Lester: posts small blind $0.10
DubsPoke: posts big blind $0.25
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to DubsPoke [Ah As] <---booyah!
mankonspank: folds
Chris1804: folds
midas281: folds
IReadUSoGood: folds
Lovethesea: folds
PokerZerg: folds
virtua_fish: folds
Jesus Lester: raises $0.75 to $1
DubsPoke: raises $1.50 to $2.50
Jesus Lester: calls $1.50 <-----he's got a pocket pair under QQ, most likely under JJ; everything else is going in PRE for this type of player)
*** FLOP *** [Td 4h 8d] <----only behind TT, 44, 88
Jesus Lester: checks <-----hmmmm....
DubsPoke: bets $4.25 <----gotta bet Aces!
Jesus Lester: raises $18.25 to $22.50 and is all-in <----shit, set.
DubsPoke: calls $18.25 <------I'm a donkey and can't fold Aces in a blind battle. Plus, based on my read, I know this guy doesn't like to fold once he gets involved. He will try to push me out with any pocket pair if he puts my on a big Ace. Which is certainly in my range as I have a slightly loose image and an 8% 3bet rate going over 120 hands

*** TURN *** [Td 4h 8d] [Qd]
*** RIVER *** [Td 4h 8d Qd] [7s] <----don't like that river, out of his range, I'm only ahead of 22, 33, 55, 66, and 99, perhaps JJ. So out of the 9 hands I put in his range, I beat 5 of them. Oh well, money is in. Time for showdown.
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Jesus Lester: shows [6d 6s] (a pair of Sixes) <-----perhaps he thought I was playing AK?
DubsPoke: shows [Ah As] (a pair of Aces)
DubsPoke collected $47.55 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $50 | Rake $2.45
Board [Td 4h 8d Qd 7s]
Seat 1: IReadUSoGood folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 2: Lovethesea folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 3: PokerZerg folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: virtua_fish (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: Jesus Lester (small blind) showed [6d 6s] and lost with a pair of Sixes
Seat 6: DubsPoke (big blind) showed [Ah As] and won ($47.55) with a pair of Aces
Seat 7: mankonspank folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 8: Chris1804 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 9: midas281 folded before Flop (didn't bet)

  1. While I think the hand played fine in the first example I think you totally went against what your note said. I mean it said he hits it with 78o, etc, so how can the 3 be a good card? I mean if he is playing low connectors pre- that 3 could be the worst card ever. I am not really advocating playing differently but I do not see how that play came from your note when they seem to say totally the opposite.
